The 2011 Joplin tornado was a catastrophic EF5 multiple-vortex tornado that struck Joplin, Missouri in the late afternoon of Sunday, May 22, 2011. It reached a maximum width of in excess of 1 mile (1.6 km) during its 13-mile long path through the city.

We here at Lighting and Locks make our home in Joplin, MO, and were very blessed that our employees, their and our business escaped the worst of the tornado damage. However, with 1/3 of the city destroyed and over 8,000 people homeless, we could not sit ideally by in our community's desperate time of need.

Our employees volunteered on cleanup and search and rescue while our main showroom and outlet donated their lighting profits during the next few weeks. When we heard Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was coming to Joplin, we jumped on the chance to do even more by donating lights to not one, but all seven houses being constructed.

We feel very blessed and fortunate to be able to participate by donating lights to the seven families in the Joplin episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Our designers worked tirelessly with the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition team to ensure each family's dream home was made a reality. Click a house below to view the lights donated.
